On this page, I would like to share some wonderful memories with all of you, my dear friends. I also look forward to hearing your thoughts on these stories and on anything related to me. Who knows—perhaps new and beautiful stories may emerge from them. Sharing is truly a wonderful thing.
The First Connection — From Denmark to Istanbul
In 2018, I received a heartfelt message from my dear Masonic sister Solveig in Denmark. (In 2017, her husband had ordered a handcrafted bracelet for Brother Thomas, which, of course, had reached them on time.)
They expressed their satisfaction with the product, which brought me immense joy. The value of positive feedback from work well done is truly immeasurable for an artisan and Freemason alike.
An Extraordinary Invitation to the Istanbul Lodge
The message I received in 2018, however, was extraordinary, exciting, and filled me with pride. Sister Solveig mentioned that her husband Thomas was planning a trip to Istanbul for his birthday and that they would love to meet me during their visit.
She also mentioned that if our Masonic Lodge in Istanbul had a meeting during their stay, her husband would love to attend. This would certainly elevate the entire trip.
I won’t go into the details of the Masonic protocols involved in his attendance, but everything was handled quickly and with mutual seriousness and understanding.
Meeting Day in Beyoğlu
Upon Sister Solveig’s request, I recommended a hotel near our Lodge. The reservations were made, and the day of our meeting finally arrived. I was filled with excitement.
We met at a café in Beyoğlu, Istanbul. With them was their beautiful little daughter, and in a matter of seconds, we connected instantly. They were such a lovely family, their faces glowing with love and warmth that radiated through their bonds. It felt as if we had known each other for years—exactly as it should be.
Brotherhood Beyond Borders
No matter where in the world we meet, the sincerity in the eyes of a brother or sister and the warmth in the handshake always convey the same connection. This is the foundation upon which Freemasonry’s teachings are built.
At the Istanbul Masonic Lodge
Brother Thomas later returned to his hotel to change into his attire, and it was time for our Lodge meeting in Istanbul. I welcomed them at the Lodge door and took Sister Solveig and their daughter to the lounge on the terrace.
Brother Thomas and I, as two brothers, joined the meeting. He attended wearing his own Lodge attire, complete with his top hat. I introduced him to the Worshipful Master of the Lodge and sat next to him to explain any unfamiliar moments or customs, ensuring he felt comfortable.
Naturally, all eyes were on him, to which he remarked:
"Everyone in the Lodge is looking at me."
I responded with a smile, "That’s only natural. This isn’t an ordinary occasion."
A Birthday Celebration in Istanbul
After the meeting, we rejoined Sister Solveig and their daughter. We celebrated Brother Thomas's birthday together. I could see the joy in his eyes when I gave him a small gift to mark the occasion.
For me, having them travel all the way from Denmark to Istanbul just to meet me—and to join the Lodge meeting hand in hand—was an unforgettable experience. It was all thanks to the thoughtfulness and meticulous planning of Sister Solveig, whose kindness made this beautiful reunion possible.
Lasting Memories of a Masonic Bond
This memory remains vivid in my mind, as fresh as if it had happened just yesterday—a reminder of the timeless and borderless bonds of Freemasonry brotherhood.
